오늘은 CNN 에서 윔블던 테니스 대회가 취소될수 있다는 기사를 가지고 왔습니다. 어려운 단어가 없고요
해석도 무난해서 읽기 편합니다. 읽어 보기 전에 윔블던 대회가 뭔지 한번 알아보고 가는것도 나쁘지 않은것 같아요. ^^
The Wimbledon tennis championships 란?
1877년 제 1회를 시작으로 세계 최고의 역사를 가진 영국의 테니스 대회입니다. 테니스 4대 메이져 대회라고 하면
프랑스오픈, 호주오픈,US오픈과 한테 윔블던 대회가 들어가죠. 세계 최고의 역사를 지닌 테니스 대회로 전영오픈 (British
Open) 테니스선수권 대회라고 합니다. 1877년 제 1회 대해 이래 두 번의 세계대전으로 인한 10년간의 공백을 제외하고
오늘까지 매년 런던 교외 윔블던 올 잉글랜드 테니스 클럽에서 개최되고 있으며, 매년 6월 제4주 ~ 7월 제1주까지 열린
다고 해요.
코트는 4대 메이저 대회중 유일하게 천연잔디 코트로 17면이 있고 , 센터 코트에는 로열 박스가 있다고 합니다.
그리고 또 하나! 다른 테니스 대회아는 달리 복장이 까다롭기로 유명하다고 합니다.
선수들이 머리부터 발끝까지 반드시 보이는 부분 모두는 흰색으로 통일해야만 하는 독특한 복장 규정을 고수하고 있다
고 해요..

The Wimbledon tennis championships will be canceled this week, according to German Tennis Federation (DTB)
vice-president Dirk Hordorff.
will be canceled : 취소 될 것이다.
DTB 에 의하면 이번주 윔블던 대회가 취소될 것이다.
Tournament organizer the All England Club(AELTC)will hold and emrgency meeting Wednesday and is expected to
make a final decision on the grand slam event, which is set to begin on June 29.
set to : 시작하다.
AELTC 는 긴급 회의를 수요일에 개최할 예정이며 올해 6월 29일 시작할 예정인 대회의 final decision 을 할것으로 예상
한다.
In a statement issued last week, the AELTC said it had been evaluating all possible scenarios, including both
postpnement and calcellation, amid the coronavirus outbreak.

지난주 나온 성명 (AELTC 에 의한) 으로는 코로나 바이러스로 인한 사태로 인해 대회 연기또는 취소를 포함해
일어날수 있는 모든 시나리오를 평가(?) 하였다. evaluating 이 평가라는 뜻이 있는데 모든 가능성을 검토 한것
으로 라고 해석해도 될것같아요. (개인적인 생각입니다. )
According to Reutuers, Hordorff told Sky Sports Germany : " I am also involved in the bodies of the ATP and
WTA. The necessary decisions have already been made there and Wimbledon will decide to cancel next Wednesday.
There is no doubt about it. This is necessary in the current situation.
Hordorff 에 의하면 중용한 결정은 벌써 정해졌고 다음주 수요일 대회 취소를 결정할 것이다. 의심의 여지가 없고 현 상
황에서는 꼭 필요한것이다.
"It is completely unrealistic to imagine that with the travel restrictions that we currently have an international tennis
tournament where hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world would travel. That is unthinkable."
이 부분은 제가 의역을 좀 해볼께요. 윔블던 대회는 수백 수천명이 움직이는 국제 대회인데 현재 이동제한(travel
restrciton)으로는 대회 개최가 비 현실적이다.
Were Wimbledon to be canceled, it would be the first time since World War ll that the grand slam willl not have
been staged.
대회가 취소된다면 2차 세계대전이후 처음으로 경기가 개최되지 않는 것이다. ( 위에서 말씀드렸듯이 2번의 세계대전
으로 10년의 공백이 있다고 말씀드렸어요 )
When asked by CNN for comment, the AELTC referred to the statement it issued last week.
The French Open, due to start on May 18, has already been pushed back until Septeber, while all professional tennis
has been suspended until further notice.
until further notice : 다음 통지가 있을때 까지.
5월18일 시작하는 프랑스오픈은 10월로 미뤄젔고 다른 모든 테니스대회는 통지가 있을때까지 연기되었다.
Sport has been severly impacted by the global pandemic. Last week, the Olympics -- set to be held in Tokyo this
summer -- was postponded.
